Rep. Ribble: It’s Time to Build Keystone

Jan 9, 2015 Issues: Energy, Jobs and the Economy

Washington, DC- U.S. Representative Reid Ribble (WI-08) today voted in support of H.R. 3, the Keystone XL Pipeline Act, authorizing the construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline and helping to create thousands of American jobs. The bill passed the House by a vote of 266 to 153.

“The Keystone XL Pipeline is an infrastructure bill, a jobs bill, and an energy independence bill.  Its construction will spur not only the creation of jobs, but also the manufacturing of over a thousand miles of pipeline and other materials, some of which will help provide jobs to Wisconsinites,” Ribble said.  “After over 6 years of waiting for approval, it is well past time for work to begin on this important project.”

According to the U.S. State Department, the Keystone XL project will support 40,100 jobs and $2 billion in earnings, and will transport an estimated 830,000 barrels of oil per day – the equivalent of nearly half of U.S. imports from the Middle East.

The Keystone XL pipeline is the most extensively studied and vetted pipeline project in U.S. history.  In addition to direct construction, engineering, and monitoring jobs created, the project will also spur manufacturing of over a thousand miles of pipeline and other materials.
