Ribble Comments on Leo Frigo Bridge Announcements

Oct 4, 2013 Issues: Transportation

Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressman Ribble lauded the Federal Highway Administration’s determination that the Leo Frigo Memorial Bridge is eligible for funding under the Emergency Relief program. In a conversation with Congressman Ribble, U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx stated that $3 million would be released to help fund emergency repairs on the bridge. Ribble also responded to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s determination that the corrosion of steel pilings below Support Pier 22 led to the weakening of the bridge’s foundation.

“It’s an important step forward that we now know the root cause of what happened to the Leo Frigo Memorial Bridge last week, and I commend the WisDOT inspectors for their thorough and timely work.  I am also pleased that Secretary Foxx and the Federal Highway Administration have decided that the bridge is eligible for repair under the Emergency Relief program and I appreciate WisDOT Secretary Mark Gottlieb’s advocacy with the FHWA.”
