Ribble Statement on Resolution of Disapproval

Washington D.C. – Representative Reid Ribble today made the following statement regarding his decision to vote Present for H.J. Res 77, a resolution of disapproval of the President's exercise of authority to increase the debt limit.

"Congress should be focusing on legislation that will jump start our economy and get Americans back to work instead of wasting time on unnecessary votes. I voted for the Budget Control Act in August because, although flawed, it was the only plan at the time that would cut spending, create spending caps, and pass both Houses of Congress. I helped author the Cut Cap and Balance Act and strongly advocated for that path, however, I am willing to stand behind my previous decision rather than cast a vote that will accomplish nothing. Americans want to see action on fixing our nation’s economic problems but purely political votes like this will do nothing except increase skepticism of the way government functions.”

This was Congressman Ribble’s first Present vote on legislative business.
